Enjoy Fall Activities

Take a Hike

By Thanksgiving, most of the leaves have fallen off the trees to prepare for winter. That means you’ll get to enjoy unobstructed panoramic views of the stunning landscape without the chilling temperatures of winter. Highs still reach the 50s but remember they are cooler in the high elevations. When you stay at the historic Natural Bridge Hotel, you’ll have the Natural Bridge State Park right in your backyard! Our favorite trails are the Cedar Creek Trail and the Buck Hill Trail. Once you’ve conquered the park, we recommend Petites Gap via the Appalachian Trail.

Go Black Friday Shopping

After a day of feasting, it’s only tradition to go shopping for some of the best deals of the year. Nearby Buchanan, Virginia is less than 15 minutes southwest of the Hotel and is home to two of our favorite stores in the area. KC Collections offer beautiful home furnishings including Amish furniture and home décor. The Best Place Antiques & the Back Door Market sells much more than antiques! You’ll find all kinds of used items ready for their new home. Lexington, Virginia is in the opposite direction about 15 minutes northeast of the Hotel. Tons of stores and businesses call the city home, so it’s a great place for some Black Friday shopping.

Attend a Local Event

Our favorite holiday event is the Festival of Trees at Natural Bridge State Park which typically runs from mid-November until the beginning of January. Local businesses, organizations, schools, and clubs decorate trees within the park to represent themselves. Guests can vote on their favorite tree by leaving a non-perishable food donation at the base of the tree. Lexington hosts a couple of festive events during Thanksgiving week. They are sure to get you into the holiday spirit!
